The main objective of a basic course in Engineering Mechanics is to enable the student to understand and analyse the actions and reactions of bodies at rest or in motion. For this a thorough understanding of the underlying physics is necessary, along with the ability to solve problems in a simple and logical manner. He has postgraduate degrees in Structural Engineering and Software Systems and has 27 years of experience in the field of teaching, research, construction and consultancy.

D Rama Durgaiah is retired professor of Civil Engineering from JNTU with 37 years of experience as a teacher, researcher and consultant. His areas of expertise are hydraulics and water resources engineering.
