Talbetalia or New Life Colony is a place full of life, in which there live twisted, broken figures, whose heads, however, are erect and steady.
The protagonist of this story comes to settle in the colony after recovering from a terrible disease…. for which there is no graver outcome than recovery. All the deformed figures in New Life Colony are isolated from the outer world. A barrier of hatred stands between those fragmented human beings and complete men. Subhas Mukopadhyay’s narration of the story of those outcasts is marked by great sensitivity and subtlety…. its humaneness deepened, perhaps, by the poet in him.
