Teaching Listening and Speaking, intended for teacher trainers, teacher trainees and practising teachers, has two sections, one on the teaching of listening and the other on the teaching of speaking. Through varied activities, the book aims to motivate teachers to reflect upon: the purpose of listening and speaking in the context of English language learning; the possibility of using authentic materials to teach listening and speaking; the selection of suitable materials for different levels of learners; and the use of ‘prompting’—visual and audio—to encourage students to speak fluently.
As special features, the book offers extensive notes and guidelines for teachers, demonstrates how authentic audio materials from television programmes and lessons from English textbooks can be used to teach listening and speaking skills, and provides materials on pronunciation for easy reference.
