It does a thorough examination of Indian History and Culture, the beginnings of the historiography in the vedas, the early lives or legends of the Buddha, the historical traditions of the Puranas, and the two leading royal and dynastic chronicles composed by the Bana and Kalhana in the seventh and twelfth centuries respectively of the Christian era.
