The book critically examines the role of English in a postcolonial, multilingual society such as India. The book argues that issues of inequality, subordination and unequal values stem from the positioning of English vis a vis the regional languages. Drawing from her own experiences and engaging in scholarly discussion, the author gives us an insight into the complexity of the role of English in postcolonial contexts.
